Luftgekühlt is basically what happened when Patrick Long, a guy with two Le Mans wins, got tired of not finding the kind of car event he actually wanted to go to. So he teamed up with Howie Idelson, a creative director out in SoCal, and a few of their friends and just made their own.
Porsche won Le Mans with air-cooled power. The 917, with its air-cooled flat-12, gave Porsche its first overall Le Mans win in 1970. It was a monster, and it’s the car that made Porsche a racing legend.
